Tattoo Safety 101

There are so many things that enter a person’s mind when considering getting a tattoo, such as, “What should I get”, and, “Where on my body should I get it”, or, “How much will it hurt”, but few people take any time to ask questions like, “What are the business standards of this establishment”, or, “What is the caliber of their artists”, and most importantly, “What are their safety standards”?   Interesting, considering not only the permanence of the decision, but even more so given the fact that the procedure for receiving a tattoo includes opening up the skin which can make anyone susceptible to encountering unwanted pathogens or diseases.

This is why tattoo safety is so important!

No matter what tattoo studio or piercing establishment you are visiting or contemplating receiving work from, know that it is your right as a patron to ask to see their safety records.  This includes items such as Autoclave Logs, Blood Bourne Pathogens Certifications and Hazardous Waste Disposal documentation.  Any studio of reputable standards will not only gladly show you these things, but more than likely, they’ll take you on a tour of their premises at that point to show you how clean and safe their business is.  Any studio that would not do this should be regarded with much skepticism and probably be avoided.

We encourage you to come into Pikes Peak Tattoo and see where the bar is set.  After all, we literally wrote the book on Tattoo Health & Safety regulations for El Paso County over twenty years ago and are still closely involved with the annual updating of the regulations each year.  So even if Pikes Peak is not the tattoo studio you choose, just remember, “Safety first”!
